    • Glasses

  2. The Dovetail saw is for making very precise cuts, usually joints, where 2 pieces of wood need to fit together perfectly. The Coping saw has a very thin blade, which allows it to turn in the wood while cutting, allowing you to make rounded cuts. It is also very fragile, so don't apply too much force while turning. The Hack saw is generally used for cutting through metal, but it can be used for straight cuts through wood.

  3. The Crosscut saw is designed for making quick, rough cuts against the grain. In most applications, the chop saw will do the same thing much faster, but in certain applications the Crosscut is the best option. The Ryoba saw (as well as the Dozuki) are Japanese saws, which means they use a pull-stroke to cut instead of the Western saws which use a push-stroke. It has two sides, one with wider teeth which is used for cross cuts against the grain, and one with finer teeth for rip cuts along the grain. The Dozuki saw is similar to the Dovetail saw as it makes very fine cuts that are perfect for joining two pieces of wood.

    • For any hand saw, you must always first clamp the workpiece.

    • While cutting, try to avoid applying lateral force. This can stress the blade/teeth, and can cause the blade to get caught in the wood.

    • These saws are very sharp. NEVER cut towards yourself, and treat these blades with the care you show the power tool.

    • Make sure the blade is in working condition.

    • No dried glue, no rust, ensure the blade is dry.

    • If the saw broke while cutting, inform a supervisor.
