Introduction

Restarting the NanoScribe requires multiple steps that must be completed in order to ensure a safe restart process. All information is provided from NanoGuide.

  1. Exit NanoWrite and wait until all windows are closed. This may take a moment. Shut down the computer.
    • Exit NanoWrite and wait until all windows are closed. This may take a moment.

    • Shut down the computer.

    • Ensure that the z-drive of the microscope is in the lowermost position. Check for the 'lower z-limit reached' message on the touchscreen of the microscope (Figure 1).

    • Turn off the power supply 232 (Labeled 1 on Figure 2).

    • Turn off the galvo power supply (Labeled 5 on Figure 2).

    • Turn off the laser control unit by turning the key switch (Labeled 4 on Figure 2).

    • Turn off the main control unit by turning the key switch (Labeled 2 on Figure 2).

    • Never switch off the 3D printer main control unit prior to any of the other components. This might damage the system or degrade performance.

  2. Turn the key switch of the main control unit (Labeled 2 on Figure 1). Open the computer access flap and press the power button (Labeled 3 on Figure 1). Wait for the computer to show the login screen before turning on other components. Check if the monitor is switched on if no login screen appears.
    • Turn the key switch of the main control unit (Labeled 2 on Figure 1).

    • Turn on the laser control unit by turning the key counterclockwise to the on position (Labeled 4 on Figure 1). The 'start/stop' button does not have to be pressed.

    • Turn on the galvo power supply and wait approximately 3 min for the galvo calibration to finish (Labeled 5 on Figure 1). A faint whirring noise may be audible during calibration.

    • Turn on the power supply 232 (Labeled 1 on Figure 1).

    • Ensure the z-drive of the microscope is at the lowermost position. Check that the 'lower z-limit reached' message appears on the touchscreen of the microscope (Figure 2).

    • Completely lowering the objective lens before inserting a sample holder is necessary to avoid damage to the objective lens.

    • Start NanoWrite. The laser control unit emits an audible tone and the power LED switches from blinking to 'on' as soon as the laser start-up is completed. The start-up procedure can take up to 30 s.
