Introduction
The Markforged Mark Two is a desktop 3D printer model specialized to make high strength parts. It has two uniqeu capabilities that enable it to achieve high strength parts. First, it is built to print Onyx, a filament made of nylon and chopped carbon fiber. Second, the Mark Two has a 2nd-generation fiber reinforcement system that enables you to lay down continuous fiber into parts. Only Markforged composite printers are capable of printing continuous fiber reinforced parts, which can be as strong as machined aluminum.
-
-
The Markforged Mark Two printers are high quality FFF machines which print their own proprietary composite blends
-
The machine is able to lay in a continuous fiber reinforcement which stiffens the part and can increase overall strengtth
-
Adding reinforcement fiber can increase costs drastically
-
The main interface of these machines is a touchscreen on the base of the print chamber and a power switch at the back
-
The Markforged printers are wired into the AFL network and are capable of printing directly over the internet
-
NEVER START A PRINT REMOTELY IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE LAB

-
The Markforged Mark Two are located on the bottom shelf in the Fab Farm.
-
Filament can be found in Cabinet 3 on the lower shelves.
-
We ONLY use material sold by Markforged, specifically Onyx and White Nylon
-
Markforged replacement parts are in the labeled container to the right of the filament in Cabinet 4.
-
The water spray bottle can be refilled directly from the filtered water source outside the lab
-
-
-
Between the two machines, there is also the Custom Print Harvesting Plate.
-
The build plate itself can be held in this custom plate while popping parts off the build plate
-
This holder is also a good way to hold the plate while wiping the glue off and wiping it dry

-
Onyx is a highly hygroscopic filament, meaning it readily absorbs moisture in the air. Absorbed moisture causes printing issues. As such Onyx is always kept in a dry box while printing.
-
There are three filament dryboxes, one of which is behind the far right printer in this picture.
-
Onyx is the preferred material by most customers. Make sure these boxes are properly closed when changing or replacing spools.
