Design Team Billing Options
When beginning a design project with Terrapin Works, you have three main options in terms of the schedule and terms on which you will be billed. Each has a different utility depending on your circumstances, and is outlined below.
Billing By Deliverable
If you choose to be billed by deliverable you will be asked to pay before the delivery of every design product resulting from your project, whether that be design files, simulation results, or physical prototypes.
Advantages
- Only pay when deliverables are ready.
- Payment usually occurs at natural point to assess the progress and direction of a project.
Disadvantages
- Will not have access to designs or code until payment, only simplified representations such as renderings or eDrawings.
- Quantity and timing of billing can vary based on size and difficulty of deliverable.
Billing by deliverable is usually preferable for customers with relatively straightforward design and production projects and who can accept flexibility in schedule.
Billing By Schedule
If you choose to be billed by schedule you will agree with your project manager on a fixed time interval at which you will be billed for all work and costs since the last charge. Your project manager and designers will be able to send you the work they have currently completed throughout the project.
Advantages
- Consistent billing schedule.
- Immediate access to designs and code as they are completed.
- Works best for large or open-ended projects that require decision gates to proceed.
Disadvantages
- Quantity billed can vary depending on designer availability during a given interval.
Billing by schedule is usually preferable for customers who prefer invoices to come at regular intervals for accounting reasons and who need immediate access to design products for personal testing and immediate feedback.
Billing By Hours
If you choose to be billed by hours you will agree with your project manager on a fixed number of design hours (no more than 20) for which you will be billed upon that amount of work being completed. Your project manager and designers will be able to send you the work they have currently completed throughout the project.
Advantages
- Consistent amount per bill.
- Immediate access to designs and code as they are completed.
Disadvantages
- Interval between billing can vary depending on designer availability.
Billing by hours is preferable for customers who prefer invoices to be of consistent amount to keep careful control of the cost of a project and who need immediate access to design products for personal testing and immediate feedback.
