Getting Started in the RPC
Welcome to the Angel P. Bezos Rapid Prototyping Lab, also known as the RPC! Read through this wiki to get a sense of what to expect when you first come in so you can hit the ground running with your projects
First timer?
If you have never worked in the RPC before here are the steps to get started:
- Come into the lab during our open hours (M-Th 12-7, F 12-4)
- The staff member on duty will give you a safety tour of the space and provide you with our User Agreement to review and sign
- After the safety tour, talk to the staff member about what you are looking to make and what equipment you would like to use (they can help you determine what equipment you need if you don't know)
- Schedule a training session on that equipment, if the staff member on duty is qualified to train the machine and is not busy, they can train you on the spot, however not all of our staff are experts every machine and we have limited staff so you may need to schedule for another day (also fill out the form providing us with your info to activate your Nemo calendar account)
- Review training documents for the machine before your session on our Dozuki page
- Come back and get trained at your scheduled time!
- Once trained you will be given access to our Nemo calendar for that machine, enabling you to make reservations
If you have any questions, ask our staff and we will do our best to answer!
Already been here?
You should already have access to the Nemo calendar for machines you are trained on, make a reservation following the guidance below to schedule time on the machine
If you would like to get trained on additional equipment, come back to the lab to schedule a training session!
Reservation Guidance
When making a reservation on Nemo, please adhere to the following guidance
- All reservations must start during our open hours, if you make a reservation outside those hours you will show up to a locked and empty lab
- Reservations must be scheduled to end when you are no longer using the machine (scheduling a 3 hour block for a 30 minute job prevents others from reserving the machine)
- You must either show up or cancel your reservation in advance, repeated no-shows may lose access to Nemo and will be unable to make further reservations
- For our 3D printers, reservations should start during open hours (when you have access to the machine) but can be made to go overnight if the print will extend into the next day, the reservation should be made so that it ends around the time the print ends
- If you are not available to return when the print ends, our staff may need to remove your parts from the build plate so others can begin printing. Your parts will be safe and waiting for you to return to post process them.
