Main components
- Injection unit: the injection unit's purpose is to melt the raw material and
guide the material into the mold - Mold: allows molten plastic to flow through a path and cool until it fixes into a certain shape
- Clamping unit: The purpose of the clapping unit is to open and close an
injection mold and eject the injection molded product at the end of each cycle.
Injection unit
Injection process
- The plastic pallets are originally inside the Hopper
- These plastic pallets then feed into the Barrel of the injection unit
- Inside the barrel a Reciprocating screw transports the pallets forward
- Heater bands wrapped around the barrel heat up the plastic pallets. As the
pallets move along the barrel the gradually melt and by the time they reach
the nozzle they entirely molten - Once enough molten plastic is infant of the screw(Shot size) it rams
forward
Components
Hopper: the hopper is the component where the plastic material is poured before
the injection molding process can begin
Barrel: The barrel holds the heated plastic as well as the casing for the
reciprocating screw
Reciprocating screw: Reciprocating screws move the plastic through the barrel.
The screw also provide continuous mixing that distributes heat evenly through the mass. The reciprocating screw is responsible for providing most heat to the
thermoforming plastic.
Heating bands: The heating bands are used to provide heat at locations
throughout the barrel
Mold & Clamping Unit
Molding & Clamping Process
- After the the plastic is injected the molten plastic then then runs into the cavity image/Mold cavity
- The plastic then solidifies in less than a minute
- The mold opens up and the ejector pins are released from from the clamping unit removing the part from the mold
- The mold closes and the process is repeated
Components
Cavity image: The Cavity image is the empty part of the mold that is designed to create the desired part
Ejector pins: ejector pins are used to push out a part from a mold after it has cooled, they are located on the B side of the mold (side of the mold that the part gets stuck on after injection)
