The Terrapin Works Website Landing Page
Terrapin Works offers general information at the department’s website, https://terrapinworks.umd.edu/. The toolbar at the top of the page groups the information into categories and sub-categories.
Understand the information available so that you can direct clients to pages on the website as necessary.
Visit the respective web pages using the links in the Headers and Subheaders below
The About Us page explains how Terrapin Works is a wide collection of resources provided as a service to the campus community. Read this page in full by double-clicking the About category name to understand Terrapin Work’s mission.
The Contact subcategory explains how to reach each of the labs in person, by email, or over the phone. Our most front facing phone number corresponds to the phone in the AFL, but any lab can be reached at their direct phone number.
Review Terrapin Works’ Terms of Use on this page to understand how we provide our services to clients. In short, we are a prototyping service and do not guarantee warranties, merchantability, or fitness for any particular purpose.
The Events page leads to a google calendar that displays upcoming workshops.
On occasion, clients will ask about job opportunities. Please familiarize yourself with this page so that you can respond to such inquiries and direct the client to the right place.
The Visit page encourages members of the community to visit the RPC or the AFL for an overview of Terrapin Works or advice, but it is possible that the MIC will receive visitors as well. If you have trouble answering a client’s questions, feel free to seek help from another staff member. If no one in the lab is able to answer an important question, encourage the visitor to send an email to terrapinworks@umd.edu. Business cards with our email are on the front desk.
This page explains the ways that Terrapin Works promotes safety in the labs.
The Testudo Statue .stl is stored here.
This page explains our pricing model: We provide affordable rates to make our services accessible to the campus community. Basic job requests usually cost $0.10/gram, where advanced requests usually require a quote from a Lab Manager.
The Location category contains a list of the major locations operated by Terrapin Works. Please review the Location Descriptions for each lab. This will help you understand the purpose of the labs, which is helpful when it is necessary to refer an MIC client to another location. Skim the Equipment section of each location if you are interested, but you do not have to.
This category lists all of the equipment owned by the department by different groupings, such as Location, Service Model, and Technology. You do not need to review this information.
This category serves as a hub linking to our manufacturing, scanning, and design services.
